Mothers of Elements

Tuuli-Ema. Mother of the Wind

Tempera, acrylic and minerals on canvas. 2020. 60 х 70 cm

Tuuli-Ema in Estonian and Karelian-Finnish folklore, represents the creator Mother of all Winds. Tuuli-Ema is a lady with character, she will blow you away not asking why. The winds of different directions and temper are her children. In ancient times there were, and at some nations still exist, the wind charmers, people with a special knowledge of the elements. They were able to change the direction and power of the wind, in fact with the power of thought, although they used the external rites for the uninitiated. For me, the wind has always been a source of energy and strength. I also love the wind for bringing clouds of rain when it is needed, and carrying them away when it is needed to open the sun or mountain peaks. In this painting the main artistic task was to show variability and lightness, transparency and permeability, and at the same time the power of the invisible force that the wind is.
